The only common drawback noted by visitors is the potential wait time during peak hours, particularly on Fridays at dinner. While the food is well worth it, sometimes patience is required. A few customers mention that cash-only payments can be inconvenient for those accustomed to cashless transactions.
Additionally, some mention that the facility could benefit from more seating, particularly during busy periods when the few chairs become quickly occupied. For some, the limited selection of sides might leave them wanting more variety, especially with the other takeaways available nearby.
The fish is always beautifully cooked, the batter crispy and, if you are watching calories, they do a tasty rice batter alternative. The chips are well portioned in kids/pensioners, small, medium, or large. Even the smallest kids/pensioners chips are a lot (for me). All thre other usual choices are available including mushy peas (delicious), curry sauce, and the usual meat things which I haven't sampled as a non-meat eater. Prices are very reasonable: a large rice-batter cod with mushy peas is £10.00 add chips and it's £12.50. The staff are simply lovely and there are a few chairs when waiting for your order. Highly recommended.
Family operated local chippy. I popped as recommended by locals. Service was kind and friendly. The large cod I ordered (X4) was the largest size that I ever got in any fish and chips order ever. Perfectly made. Price was also great. Should have reduced a point for cash only but simple can't. That cod .. oh!.

Lunch at Alfie's means huge and delicious portions of fish 🐟 and chips 🍟!!! Smashed it again!!!
The fish and chips were so crispy and of top notch quality. You pay a fraction of the price but get something much better than those in a nice restaurant. Best fish and chips takeaway!
We can't fault it at all. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was speedy. We will definitely be returning when we are back in Kent! We stopped there by chance on our way to the apartment we rented for our half-term break around 4 pm. We took our usual when trying new takeaways on the seaside holidays: two portions of cod and chips. We are a family of three (my husband is a big eater, and I love fish and chips but our son rarely eats more than a couple of chips). We don't like to waste food because of a fussy 10 years old so we always take 2 portions to share then we can always get more if needs be. I split one portion in half between myself and our son without much hope that he'd eat much, especially since he ate some lunch and lots of snacks during our 3 hours journey while the second portion was for my husband. We couldn't believe our eyes when our son ate most of his half! I never remember to take photos of the food. I am rather about enjoying food not taking photos of it but this time I took a photo of the only bit our son left. Well at least until it was finished by me later on :). Tempura butter was crispy, the fish inside cooked to perfection, chips were fluffy inside and crispy enough on the outside. To say that the portions were generous is an understatement. My husband managed to eat all of his somehow because, as he said, it was too delicious, and he couldn't stop eating despite being full. We all were super full but satisfied. Later during our stay, when exploring Margate, we realised that it must have been the cheapest takeaway in the area by a considerable amount! Also, portion sizes were bigger than in other places, and I don't only mean the fish but also the chips (we only had a look when passing by other establishments as we already knew where we would order every time during our stay). As we all know, it's impossible to have fish and chips every day, but if we lived in the area, I think at least once a week would be a must. We made most of it during our stay, and we will definitely be back for more. I was shocked to read some other reviews suggesting that the portions were not big enough. It seems to be locals who were used to the even bigger portions previously. My question is, how many people were you feeding with just one portion? Great value for money right? https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g503912-d7897818-r952985499-Alfie_s-Margate_Isle_of_Thanet_Kent_England.html#
